"Vox Pop", Bruce's Vocal Improv Ensemble in Featured Performance of two unique sets at "Vox Pop"
Vox Pop, 1022 Cortelyou Road, Brooklyn, NY
PLEASE NOTE: Absolutely EVERYTHING written on the events blog of Vox Pop (the venue) about this performance is incorrect as of 11:30 on the morning of the show day, including the time of the show, which should read 6 to 7:30. Please use this calendar page for the most accurate info.
NEWS FLASH: After a resoundingly successful Soho, NYC, salon performance in June, Vox Pop -- the ace vocal improv ensemble -- is confirmed to play at Vox Pop -- "Coffee, Books, Democracy" -- for a concert/experience in farewell to founding member Tom Weiser.
This will be an almost-90-minute Vox Pop show, in the form of two musically unique sets. The improv group's performance precedes the other Vox Pop's regular Sunday open mic night.
FYI, there are lots of good goodies to eat and drink there. Word is there is a fine, new BBQ chef on duty, so come for dinner (or not) if you like.
The venue is easily accessed by car and just a few blocks from the Cortelyou stop on the Q train. Go to http://www.voxpopnet.net for more info [but DISREGARD any info on that site specific to tonight's show].
Thanks for STAYING TUNED (and ATTUNED, of course)!
Background on Vox Pop, the vocal improv group:
All four of Vox Pop's core members (Bruce, Kate Geller, Ben Silver and Tom Weiser) are established singer/songwriter/performers in our own right. We came together to bring a sense of spontaneity, passion, fun, artistry and community into an improvised stew pot of unorthodox musical and spoken word sound. We hear that we come across as focused, evocative and entertaining whether any particular piece has a structure to improvise from or is totally free.
VP tends to invite guest singers onstage at shows and often, at some point, involve the whole audience into an engaging, vocal feelgoodathon. At longer shows, each core member performs a solo piece or two.
Vox Pop flows in the tradition of Bobby Mcferrin, Voicestra, Rhiannon and primal, tribal, shamanistic hoedowns of yore -- but we're sassy, assured and inventive enough to be our own original, four-headed vocalizing critter.
Catch Vox Pop at Vox Pop on Sunday, July 15 at 6.
